Parenting UR Teen Course

All parents need support. The type of support needed can change at different stages in their life and in their child’s life. The Parenting Education offers a unique and flexible approach to addressing the needs that parents, themselves, identify. The team have developed an eight week course which is ideal for those in a parenting role of young people aged 12 - 18 years.  This programme covers a range of themes including problem solving, communication, understanding teen behaviour, boundaries, conflict and self esteem.

Parents came along to our programmes for different reasons, some simply want to understand their teen others are tearing their hair out at the changes in the young person and the parents are very concerned about their teens behaviour. If you feel you could use support in handling your teen come along to our 6 week programme below, we offer practical tips and guidance, you will meet other parents in a similar situation and more importantly enjoy learning with new friends.

 

Sink or Swim

(Positive Parenting for Parents with Mental Health Issues)

When a parent becomes mentally unwell, it can be difficult for them to explain to their children what is happening and for the child to make sense of their parent’s attitude and behaviour. This programme deals sensitively with the issues faced by children and their parents and offers practical tips and factual information to reduce the likelihood of increasing the child’s anxiety and meeting the child’s needs.

"What If"

(A parenting programme for parents who are living with an addiction )

The parenting programme “What if” is a specially designed programme for parents, carers and extended family members who are living with drug and alcohol abuse. Parental substance abuse is associated with child abuse and neglect. Our aim is to target children who are being neglected through hidden harm. The parenting programme has a child centred approach and sessions are aimed to improve the outcomes for the children.

Parents Advice Centre are currently recruiting parents for our innovative programme to begin rolling out this coming September 2010 to March 2011.

Positive Parenting

This 6 week course is developed to emphasise all the relevant principles of positive parenting, offering practical tips and ideas for each individual parent and their personal circumstances.  It is interactive and will give parents an opportunity to make friends and build a support network.  Aimed at parents of children aged 0-11.

Parents Anger Management Programme (PAMP)

" Have you ever regretted the way you have acted with your child when angry"

This 8 week course gives parents the chance to take time out to work towards positive changes in a supported group setting. This programme is designed to be stimulating and challenging, whilst handling your own anger issues.

 

Conflict in the Family

This addresses parental conflict and its impact on children.

It is normal for relationships to go through stages of change and many parents living together or apart have to cope with conflict in their relationship. This 4 week course aims to equip parents with information, skills and confidence to deal with conflict issues and reduce their impact on children.

Flatpack Guide for Fathers

This 4 week course is offered to fathers and designed and planned to emphasis their important role within the family. It is interactive, fun and an opportunity for dads from all backgrounds to build a support network.

Parenting Apart

This 4 week programme is aimed at parents who have separated, are separating, divorced or thinking of divorce. The course will provide practical advice and guidance on what children need to know, and what parents can do to meet their needs.

 

Managing Children's Challenging Behaviour

This 4 week course will help you to understand why children can be disruptive and it will give you practical tips on how to deal with challenging behaviour and how to reinforce positive behaviour.

 

Parenting in a Diverse Society

This 4 week course focuses on how parents can promote their children's tolerance and understanding in today's culturally diverse society. Through looking at the differing cultural attitudes and some of the current legislation to parenting, parents should have a better understanding of how best to support their children within a multicultural community.

Promoting Independence

How do you strike the balance between keeping children and young people safe and allowing independence? This course is designed for parents of 9-11 yr olds. Many children of

this age group are very susceptible to influences within their own community such as alcohol and drug misuse, peer pressure and unhealthy behaviours. Parents will be helped to have

a greater understanding of how their children become socially responsible young adults.

 

Stepping Up

The course deals with the specific issues that living in a stepfamily can present. This programme aims to encourage communication and strengthen relationships where there has not been biological bonding. We will explore the benefits of parenting together, the importance of every member's input and the ever-changing dynamics in the new family unit.
