Volunteering

Parents Helpline is operated by trained Helpline Volunteers.

Every autumn/spring we recruit for our accredited preparation course which prepares new Parents Helpline Volunteers to provide support and guidance to Parents Helpline clients. The Parents Helpline Volunteers who successfully complete this course join Parents Helpline in one of our two branches, South & East based in Belfast or North & West based in Derry.

Parents Helpline Volunteers give a high level of commitment to the organisation. This involves one morning, afternoon or evening per week on rota, attending supervision sessions and Skills Development Workshops.

Parents Helpline highly values the contribution of these volunteers and encourages suggestions from them as to how their role could be better supported and recognised.

Parents Helpline Volunteers also have opportunities to input into the development plans of Parents Helpline and Parents Advice Centre and to attend events on behalf of the organisation.

When volunteers leave Parents Helpline they often bring their experience to similar fields of work.

Please use the links on the left of this page to find out more about what a Parents Helpline Volunteer does, how they are trained, what is expected of them, and how to apply to become a Parents Helpline Volunteer.
